We'll have a church service in Paris on Saturday, and a few visits with people in the city. Then Sunday morning early we'll take the train to Lausanne, then to Sion and then hopefully Jean-Marc will be there to drive us to Nendaz in the Swiss Alps about 10 or 15 km from the Matterhorn (though I don't think we'll be able to see it from where we'll be).
Back when we lived in Alsace, Marjolaine and I could drive to from our home to Engelberg, a delightful Swiss ski resort, in about 2 ½ hours, and we tried to go for a day or two each winter, often meeting friends there from Germany or Switzerland. We would sometimes ski the Gstaad region too, since we had an old friend who was born and raised there and had a cousin who ran a pension in the beautiful little village of Rougemont. We skied quite a bit in those younger days: the Austrian Alps, the Vosges, the Black Forest, the French and the Andorran Pyrenees; it was a real joy. I haven't skied much since we moved back to the States, but we've been out a few times now and again. This should be lots of fun.
