I've just finished the first trans-Atlantic leg of what will be a month-long trip through Africa and Europe. This trip should take me to Côte d'Ivoire - including a trip en brousse (in the bush) to visit a new group of interested people about 400 km from Abidjan in the town of Man - as well as Kinshasa in the Congo, a layover in Nairobi, South Africa, Zambia (my first visit there), Mauritius and Reunion Islands in the Indian Ocean, then back to Europe for some visits in France and Belgium before heading home. I left yesterday on the 15th of January and I should return home on the 15th of February. South Africa and Zambia would not normally be destinations for me as they're not French-speaking, but this trip I have the chance to help out with some seminars being held for Church leaders in both areas. I'll be joining Jim Franks who is organizing the conferences, at the request of the Southern African region.

It was about 10 degrees F (-12 C) when I left Cincinnati last night. Warmer temperatures will be one nice thing in Africa. The flight departed on time at 7:45, but as we had a strong tail wind most of the way, we arrived a full hour early here in Paris.  I'm sitting in the Air France Lounge (courtesy of my frequent flyer card). Air France doesn't offer free Internet access, but Emirates does and the lounges are close enough that the signals overlap, so....here's a chance to start the travel blog for this trip.

I have several more hours to wait before the flight to Abidjan where I should arrive just after dark, a bit before 7 pm. I called the Tias yesterday to make sure they had received all my messages - they had and are expecting my arrival.

I'll get some prep work done now for the days ahead.
