England was not what we were expecting. The horrific ice age we had heard about leading up to it seemed very anticlimactic. Not a patch of snow anywhere. Needless to say there was plenty of rain and fog though.

We had booked into a travel lodge just before Bigwig's sale and had decided to remain there 3 nights simply to recuperate, plan our next movements, and mourn the loss of our Bigwig. We had to bin all our bedding and some of our other worn out stuff. But most importantly, we got to do our laundry! After two whole months of filthiness. Praise the lord! We wonder if there is a patron saint of coin laundries that we should have prayed to.

One thing we had wanted to do this trip was for one of us to get a tattoo, and it really only seemed fitting that it be done by a piratey tattooist from a proper English sea port! The design we had decided for Joel's arm was taken from a fresco painting in Luzern, Switzerland. We had the photo for ages and it always sat in the back of Joel’s mind that that was the one. And so it happened in a place called 'My last one’ tattoo studio.
The artist was really great and the pain was way more agonizing leading up to it, rather than while it happened. No more that a little tingle.
