We spent the night on the beach in Figueira Da Foz before heading up north to find an interesting place to spend new years eve. Before then we made a day stop in a town called Aveiro.

Aveiro is a cool little town parked on a river on the ocean side, so it has a nice little canal running through it, and all along the river are parked brilliantly coloured boats. Most with little funny graphics on them. Good and smutty, so very entertaining.

We asked the tourism lady about what new years celebrations we can expect in the area and she said that there wasn't so much happening apart from a weird tradition they do in Aveiro. Apparently, people make these traditional cakes and put a wish on them, then they bring them to the church, the priest blesses all the hundreds of cakes and then they take them all up to the top of the bell tower and drop them all down. They say people go crazy down at the bottom trying to catch the cakes, even inverting umbrellas to catch them.
We decided we weren’t so hungry for smooshed pavement cakes, so we pressed on.
