Evora, by all evidence here in Portugal, seems like the town not to miss. Signs point to it from everywhere! The evil skies above seemed like it were stalking us like some big fierce lion, the rain and the wind at our heels.
We finally got to Evora, and the clouds seemed to peel open like a miracle and we had the run of the place. There were many churches (as you'd expect from a 99% catholic country) but there was also an awesome ancient Roman temple, which we hadn’t seen in a long time. The town also had an impressive fortified wall and as we walked around we got to talking to a local drunkard named Manuel, who when asked what occupation he did, he replied "I am a fun guy". He greatly wanted to go and live in Australia and annoyingly kept making kangaroo references.
A lot of the shops seemed to have a commonality of selling cork related items. Cork hats, shoes, wallets, umbrellas. It’s almost like whatever you would typically make out of leather, you can make out of cork. This is awesome news if you’re pescatarian like us! They even had cork postcards. Look out family!
And so we kept walking and as we wandered around the angry lion crept over again and we were soon sent packing.
