We decided to spend the day there as the beach was prime and sunny and we had arranged to have dinner in Bigwig that evening with our new polish friend Ulrich (or Georgey-boy). He was an absolute carnivore and sadly for him, needed to compromise over some tasty lentil patties. Probably scared the hell out of him!
He was great fun and enjoyed the company, apparently he hadn't spoken to a single person in 8 days as he had been traveling alone
The next morning while Joel was in the nearby WC he happened upon an abandoned bum-bag, which he discovered was filled with a wallet, mobile phone, watch, and at least 400€ in cash. It could have been a great payday for any person with an inclination for villainy but because we are saintly travelers, we waited for the man to show up (we would remember his face from his drivers license).
Eventually the guy ran over, perhaps an hour later with grief twisted over his face. Joel ran out crying "Hola!" holding up the bag. But the Hollywood reunion we had hoped for quickly disappeared when he suddenly took the bag with his sweaty hands and ran off quicky. We had supposed the mere sentiment of doing the right thing was enough for us. But then about 20 minutes later, he showed up again with his wife, a big smile, and a bottle of red wine for us.
It goes to show, when you do good things for the universe, she may reward you with alcohol. She is a strange one, but we love her.
