Finally, we got to go and see the long awaited 'Mostra Mercato del Tartufu Bianco' or white truffle festival. This was the second time we visited Volterra, you may remember it as the Prison town because it’s built around a huge castle which is now a state prison.
The festival though was pretty great, you could smell exactly where all the truffle stores were hidden about the town as the beautiful aroma wafted though the streets. So we got stuck in, we didn’t need lunch after a full morning of engorging ourselves on truffle, cheese and pastry samples. But it turns out the best truffle of all is from San Miniato, a town we just visited in the lead up to the festival. We decided to buy some fresh white truffle at 1€ per gram. Very expensive. But that night we had the most deluxe dinner ever as a climax to our time in Tuscany.
On the way out of town while driving, a man drove his car up the rear end of Bigwig. This is the second time our van has been plugged back there and we must confess, its getting pretty tired. The dude spoke not a word of English, which was very convenient for him… But Bigwig was not that badly damaged. His car though was damn near written off. Bigwig is very tough and should never be underestimated.
