The reason for coming back to Montepulciano was because Jena had worried that there was so much more to the town that we missed out on last time, and she was right.
There had to be about 80% of the hill top town that was unexplored, first time around we thought Piazza Grande was pretty much it, but there was a bustling shopping district just around the corner that lead all the way down the hill into the new town.
And of course we got our epic park spot back, the one overlooking San Biaggio. It has to be the best park in all of Italy, Jena thinks the best even in the whole trip
We stayed there about 7 days, cruising around the streets and relaxing in Bigwig. This time around it was much colder so we began listening to lots of John Safran and started the Harry Potter audio books.
First time when we went wine tasting we hadn't rated Montepulciano very well. In fact we had almost called it a Tuscan write off. But on second inspection we came into the knowledge of the 'Nobile’ a wine specific to Montepulciano that is one of the oldest and well respected wines in the whole world, and well justified too. It is awesome.
This time around there were many Americans scampering about, it almost seems that even the German tourists are being outnumbered by them. And then there is the Purple people… A phenomenon that we have seen all over Europe but for some reason there were several separate sightings condensed in this town.
These are the people who when dressing themselves, choose to commit to one colour. The amazing thing though it, its not like its just a purple dress and hat. We’re talking many separate items; belts, socks, shoes, jewelry, handbags. Its incredible. They’re everywhere, and now with Harry Potter on the mind were beginning to think that they may all be witches.
