We spent the night at our Rome freeway Autogrill and arose to think it a great idea to walk across the motorway to Ikea. Not only was the experience very expensive for us (Rad cushions, lanterns for winter, and some sweet Swedish treats) but the walk over and back damn near killed us both!

Whipping up the freeway later in Bigwig we kept seeing lots of fruit growing on all the cactus alongside the road. We'd seen these odd fruit in the green grocers, and now we were determined to steal some for ourselves.
So we pulled up alongside the road, then suddenly got yelled at by some people to move our car (naturally) but when we went to restart our van, it wouldn’t turn over. Not even a sound… We were freaking out. We eventually push started it with the help of the yellers and got him going, then we kept driving. We had decided that the battery was simply flattened from all the inverter power we’d been doing. So it seemed necessary to drive an hour or two to re charge the battery.
When we got to Tuscania, a small town, NOT in Tuscany. We pulled up in the parking lot and turned the engine off. Then it wouldn’t start again.
What followed was an awesome push-start by Jena and an hour of driving around the medieval town for a mechanic. When we eventually found one. The Fiat guy simply looked under the engine and re-plugged a wire that had fallen out. He wouldn’t accept any payment, which was awesome. Then Joel went to shake his hand, but because the mechanic’s hand was dirty he wanted Joel to shake his closed fist. But instead Joel bumped fists with him like black people do. Then it was really awkward.

In Tuscania though, there is a really old walled town full of mega old churches. We spent 2 days exploring the little old gems here and there. There is a Basilica from the 8th century with military towers all around it. Underneath was an enormous catacomb. Jena still doesn’t venture into them, they are creepy. But Joel always gives it a crack.
If he ever runs into a ghost, he can just bump fists with it and then they can be friends.
