We drove a long time, our intentions were to go and visit this famous thermal lake, but the day again was scorching and the idea of us having a hot swim was rather sickening. So we kept driving all the way around Lake Balaton and further south to cross the border into Croatia.

This border check was pretty intense this time and we were pessimistic they would even let us in after they took our passports away to fiddle with their computer. Perhaps our Schengen visas might have expired? But after a painful and elongated wait, they finally stamped our passports and we were away! Into Croatia!

We had trouble finding a toll free passage to Zagreb, (as we have no GPS) but when we did we really enjoyed the drive through all the interesting towns and forests. Its actually really pretty and green.
The one thing that firstly jumped out at us was the radical buildings everywhere, really modern homes, but not modern like Australian modern, they were like zany designs with bright and sometime fluorescent colours. Modern gothic or houses made only of arches. Really funny.

When we got into Zagreb the capital we were again underwhelmed by the heat and dirtiness. So we drove thought the centre and back out down towards the coastline, where there is free swimming and free fishing!

Our book tells us that crime is not a big worry in Croatia, so we're hoping we wont have to use another one of our 9 cat lives while we are here.
