Driving around in the "Nederlands" we had the opportunity to see a lot of the small canal towns that decorated the green countryside. Classic, stereotypical windmills were also very prevalent, but it wasn't until we passed Rotterdam, we saw a massive shift in the architecture. Enormous and fantastic buildings, some which looked like a big scrunched up piece of paper, others, these huge brilliant coloured curved buildings. Big art installations were everywhere along the roads and we could tell we were in a very progressive place.

Which brings us to Amsterdam.

We parked in a mysterious car park with a moat in an arena, which allowed us to quickly hop on the train and travel directly into the center on the city. As the place is a canal city, a little like Venice, we really had no choice but to park on the further outskirts of the city. We weren’t certain we could park there as there is no English ANYWHERE.. oh well.

The place seemed so old and steeped in revolutionary history. The narrow terraced buildings were so leany and crooked like as if an earthquake had hit and no body had bothered correcting all the collapsing buildings.
But the buildings were no where near as crooked as the people that occupied them. Especially in the colourful red light district where shameless and radical occupations are as natural as a baker and a butcher. So very interesting. And then there are the Cafes.. An amusing front to a famous tradition for marijuana enthusiasts to peddle their wares with full license.
We had such an interesting time wandering through the most unique place on earth. We had some coffee and avoided being lured into one of the thousands of sex shows that were on prominent display all day.
Women of all kinds, in an Amsterdam tradition, were flaunting their wares from what can only be described as Whorequariums. Little window booths in the shopfronts. What’s funny is that there are all sorts, young, old, obese, male, what every your depraved heard desires.

What an interesting place. The cake is not normal either.
