Upon waking we had decided to drive directly into Bruge in Belgium, which is one of the oldest preserved medieval cities in Europe. We had been inspired to see it after watching the movie 'In Bruge' with Colin Farrel back at home. Therefore we were on the lookout for midgets and hitmen.

The town was outstanding. Apart from the throngs of surging tourists we were able to achieve a great park and to ransack the city centre of chocolate, beer, and lace. Oh didn’t you know Belgium is most famous for its cloth and lace? Us either!

We had a beautiful lunch amongst the market place, which comprised of bread with fresh white anchovies and camembert cheese which we picked up while still in France. It was monumental!

The 35 day was the hottest we have had so far and it did not bid well with the Dover burn. But we pressed onward from every shady spot to the next marveling at the enchanting architecture.

It is really interesting to see that everyone both young and old, owns and uses a push bike. Jena finds it curious because back at home the only people who ride them are people who have lost their licenses. But here it is a way of life. We love seeing really old dudes cruising around on funky old bikes. It’s inspiring.

On the road north to Holland and Rotterdam, we came to find a nice shady tree to park under in the farmland in Lokeren which is still in Belgium. Tomorrow we will be in the land of the dirty Dutch.
