Driving through a dizzying and vast former glacier we encountered the original Glen orchy. and realised where a lot of New Zealand's names came from. Scotland is like NZ’s big brother in every respect. The massive expanse of this glacier was incredible, with snow still loitering on the peaks in this very comfortable 18-20ºC day.

We explored a small town called Glencoe, which we later found out was the site of a terrible massacre against the Scots from the English. In a story of treachery and political agenda, many of the clansmen died here. Men they called 'Jacobites’ because they disliked the idea of the unrightful king in power, preferring the one recently ousted.

On the top of Loch Leven there is a huge tourist town named Fort William. Parking is damn near impossible with so many motor homes and caravans everywhere. We can’t believe the amount of motor home vehicles here in Scotland, and Loch Ness in particular is very crowded with tourists.

We left shortly after to the side of a lake called Loch Oich, where on a spit of land we set up camp, making a campfire and fishing in the black waters.

A family of Indians (from India) came down to the shores where we were and became very chummy with us, calling Australia the fatherland of Bret Lee and Steve Waugh. We had such a strange palaver with them as well as some very uncomfortable photos by which they insisted we be in. We assured them we weren’t locals, but still we had to be in EVERY photo.
