hey everyone....Sonia here. I'm busy trying to update our blog today!! :) Sorry we are so far behind.....
OK so this entry shows some pics from our 18 mile hike out to two small villages in Northern Laos. Amazing scenery. My heart was broken a bit though b/c this is the part of Laos where the US waged a Secret War against Laos back during the Vietnam War era. The people here had to live in caves to survive. We met a man who was born in one of those caves. He asked us where we were from and we said America. Then he said he likes us, but he still hates Nixon. I honestly can't even begin to process the fact that 30-40 years later this region is *still* dealing with the aftermath of that war. Many of the villages here use discarded bombshells for furniture or to hold things -- and there is still unexploded ordinance throughout the region. We are seeing this all over SE Asia by the way....unfortunately Laos is not the only place.
Without further delay, let me get busy posting some pics our our journey through rice paddies, caves and streams.
