While we were looking at the Merlion, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlion it started to rain (this time of year in Singapore it's *always* about to rain). Anyways, we dashed underneath an overpass where we found a vendor with a python. For S$5 (about $4) you could have your picture taken with the python draped around your neck.
Sonia was willing (jet lag seems to reduce one's capacity for common sense decision making) and soon enough she was wearing a live python neck scarf. At first, she was OK with it, but the guy kept rearranging the python on her and making her hold it in different ways. At one point she was staring directly at its mouth *and* the python seemed to have the same "how much longer do I have to put up with this?" expression.
Finally, after a few "get this d*mn snake off of me!" comments, the snake was removed. Both snake and Sonia seemed much happier.
But for a few minutes the only words she could get out were "hand sanitizer! hand sanitizer!".
Got some great shots but I completely forgot the camera had a video recording function -- wish I'd recorded that on video.
