We keep trying to leave this city, but something keeps pulling us back. Actually, this stop in Bangkok was one of convenience; this city is such a travel hub we had to go through it to get ourselves north. Returning does bring some pleasures though. We are now beginning to feel like locals. We had dinner with our Thai friends, Damon, MG and Will, stayed and partied (once again) on Khao San Road, and finally faced the inevitable - a trip to the seedy Red Light District of Patpong.
We visited Monk's Bowl Village one afternoon and toured the artisan community. We also bought a few of these beautiful, hand-made bowls that the monks use to collect their charity. Joel spent another afternoon with the Coppolas, venturing north of the city to explore the old Summer Palace of the royal family. The estate was great fun to tour around in our little golf cart. The grounds were perfectly manicured with beautiful architecture, the whole place was great for photographing (check out the pics).
We savored the socializing, meat-eating, beer-drinking, Khao San craziness as much as we could. By the time we left Bangkok, our minds and bodies were prepared for just the opposite - 10 days of solitude and deep meditation in the mountains on the Burmese border.
Bye-bye Bangkok, we're sure we'll see you again soon.

That was about the cutest pic. I guess Will does not take crap from anyone.
