The bad weather that caused us to leave Interlaken early gave us good reason to visit Bern, the capitol of Switzerland. The same weather that made the mountains a cloud of fog may have actually made Bern even more photogenic... no less in any case. This city, unlike any other we have seen, sits uniquely by design beneath a monochromatic color palette. The buildings, like a copper-green shadow beneath the steely fall sky. As we walked the streets there was an elegance that you find only in places that exist for their own sake and not to please tourists. It was great.

While there we made the most of the weather, at least we tried not to let it hold us back. We visited the apartment of Albert Einstein- Bern was his home for several years. We walked across the river up the hill on the other side of town to the rose garden . On the way there we spent some time studying/ playing with the bears that are housed in a pit next to the river.

For a day that could have been nothing, we enjoyed it quite a bit.
