We arrive at the Dalles, Oregon, a somewhat inauspicious locale that attracts us with the affordability of its hospitality industry.  By the time we conk out, the next day's adventures are a foreshadow only present in our deep sleep:)

We start the day off with a journey back up highway 97, just South of the Dalles, to a lightly populated area known as Pine Hollow Reservoir.  Otto has been clamoring for an opportunity to go fishing since before we left California, and this is his big chance.

The day starts off casually, and we're all satisfied to enjoy what warmth the sun brings and the pleasant company of our tour guide, a consummate travel warrior and indefatigable friend, Steve.

Sparrow was waxing philosophic about vegetarianism, ambiguously addressing the horrors of a carnivorous lifestyle while actively tempting fish with the hook on her fishing pole, and the results were exhilarating.

Despite not being the first to land a silvery monster, Otto was psyched about his quarry.

The day, though only being half over, was already a success.  Our stop at the Deschutes river was pure gravy.
