Beautiful morning in DC. First off
we got the bus to Union Station to book into our Duck Tour. Was fun scooting
around the city in a WWII Army Duck. The tour guide was entertaining and
pointed out the many memorials, monuments and government buildings. So many! We
had a severe case of the head spins but it helped us get an idea of Washington's layout. Then it was
into the Potomac River for a spin and he placed us directly under the incoming
flight path of the Regan
Airport. Quite
remarkable ... plane after plane coming in directly over-head!

After the tour we took a taxi out
to the Lincoln Memorial (too far for our feet!) and started our sightseeing
walk. The Lincoln was amazing and the view down the
reflecting pool to the Washington
Monument extraordinary.
Had to pinch myself to believe I was really there and also suppress an impulse
to run and call out “Forest, Forest”. Lol!

We then walked through a number of
memorials. Quite intense and patriotic (expected) and numerous fountains and
views of Capital Hill. I can imagine Americans being fond of this place.
Personally the war themes were a little thick around here for me.

Museums were next. Smithsonian
Natural History and Native Americans were all we were going to realistically to
get in and even they were a bit of a struggle. Our feet were sore and we were
crashing at an alarming rate. The day was very warm and it sapped our energy
somewhat but we had had a great day and we were all satisfied with what we had
accomplished.

Back to the Hilton for a full
happy hour and an early night. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow driving
to Boston. Need
our wits about us on that highway!
