Well, the worst thing was that I had Barry Manilow going around in my head the whole time we were there ("her name was Lola..."). The best thing was that we got so lucky with our hotel, as we were approached by these guys as we got off the bus who offered us a room in their, as yet unfinished, 5 star hotel, for about 3 quid a night for the pair of us. Yeah so the reception area was still a bit of a building site, but who cares when you get to sleep on a mattress thatīs not dusty or full of fleas, and you have one of the most beautiful views in the world out of your window; Lake Titicaca. ("She was a showgirl...")
We took a boat trip to visit the Islas de la Luna y del Sol (Moon and Sun Islands) the birthplace of the sun in Inca mythology. On Sun Island you can visit the ruins of the anciant temple to the sun and the sacrificial table where they would offer up the prettiest virgin from a supply that they kept in a convent on Moon Island. Being a sun worshipper myself I felt that I should offer up my services as the convent is now obviously defunkt, but as no lightning bolt came down from the sky the sun god obviously did not consider me worth. Canīt think why...
