Tuesday November 22nd

It is already Tuesday and we haven't heard from Newt.  Newt left Iowa on Thursday November 14th with Crazy Fish on his step down flat bed truck to deliver her to us at Flagler Beach, all fixed and perfect after three and a half months of repair time at two Dodge Shops and Winnebago.  All systems are "go" assured our insurance agent.  Crazy Fish had been hit by lightning outside of Rapid City South Dakota on August 23rd.  Andy and I bought "Crazy Fish Too" after more than two weeks of living at the Dodge Town parking lot.  [please refer to entry "STRUCK BY LIGHTNING" to read more].

Now at the end of November and we are told Newt will be arriving maybe Wednesday.  No calls from Newt prompted Andy to call him.  Newt, in his slow and easy southern drawl said he was in St.Augustine, about a half hour away and as yet had no way of getting our RV off the bed of his truck without damage.  " Half Hour! No way to get it off!"  What was he thinking to not have called us earlier?  Our hands tied by circumstance we put our faith in Newt. With no way to unload an RV properly here at the park we suggested we come pick up the RV as his chances of finding a loading dock up there were greater than down here at the park. He said he'd call when we should head on up there to pick up the RV.  He had an idea.  OK........

We went for a walk on the beach to shake off the feeling of helplessness and frustration, after reserving a second site at the park for Crazy Fish.  On our return walk we got the call that he had found a truck tire repair place off Rt.95 that agreed to him shoveling out an incline to create a ditch big enough for him to unload Crazy Fish.  Good Grief!  Glad he had enough imagination to solve the problem.  Off we went in "Baby Fish" to find Newt calm and happy waiting for us leaning against his rig with Crazy Fish quietly awaiting our arrival.  It was a homecoming!!

Andy drove her as I drove Baby back to Flagler.  By the time we both pulled into our campsites Andy had discovered the brake warning light was on and would only go off when he plugged in his seat belt.  Oh no....not perfect.  Back on the phone to find yet another Dodge Dealer who is certified to work on Sprinter chassis.

Thursday November 24th

Jerry's call rang through and we gladly grabbed the phone.  Calls from Jerry and Linda always mean "fun".  "let's go to Ponce Inlet in the boat!"  said Jerry in his enthusiastic manner.  That was on Monday evening for a boat ride on Thursday.    We were to meet them at their house by 11:00am.  Up early to pack lunches, sunblock, drinks, towels and fishing gear off we drove in tandem to Daytona Dodge.  Leaving Crazy Fish again at one more Dodge Dealer repair shop did not feel good but our assigned representative, Nikki did.  She gave us the faith and professionalism we needed as she listened to our saga.  We exchanged information, handed over the keys and headed for a day of boating.

Jerry and Linda have been boating for over 30 years and know what they are doing.  We loaded everything into their 22 foot catamaran with two 250 horse outboard 4 stroke engines.  Sweet!  Lots of room on her deck with storage and lots of cushioned seating.  Pole holders and a live well.  perfect sunny day and we were off.  Jerry drove the truck pulling the boat to High Bridge Road and between he and Linda smoothly and expertly settled her into the water by use of the boat ramp.

We spent the day cruising down the river to Ponce Inlet where we broke out the lunches and shared boating stories.  Jerry and Linda kept us laughing and amazed as we listened to years of experiences getting stuck, having fun, exploring, fishing and mixing it up with friends new and old.  Many of the sand bars are used as meeting places during the summer months.    Imagine over a hundred boats all hanging around the sand bar with hundreds of folks all floating round in tubes or Bogey boards or noodles having a cool refreshment as the current takes them for a ride.  Ahhhh....THE SALT LIFE.....CRAZY FISH LIFE.........
