Hope all is well at home - and no we are not missing it one little bit!
continuing north we have come across some odd names - one of which was Funny Dunny Park where we ate Nobby's nuts and Sultry Sally crisps! The Australians have a thing for larger than life models of everyday things - to date we have seen a ram, lobster, guitar and recently a mango. There is more to see evidently.
the weather is currently lovely but we had a lot of rain in South Queensland - 9 inches fell one night! At one stage the rain on the coast was so bad we went inland to Emerald, Sapphire and Rubyvale where we did some fossicking - no gems worth cutting were found.
We've travelled up the Gold and Sunshine coast some of which is lovely but places like Surfer's Paradise is very Costa Del Sol ish. Byron Bay was nice but very busy. We also met up with our friend Margaret from Wimbledon at Easter which was great.
We attended the ANZAC day ceremony in Townsville - very impressive. Big crowds attend these and a mixture of ages too. The school kids wear there uniforms which are very dated and look like those I wore to The Convent school in Grays!!
No boogie boarding photos in this entry you'll be pleased to know as this is Stinger season - Box Jelly fish and they can be deadly. There are also warning signs for crocodiles! This part of the world is also where the back packers come - we try to avoid these areas if we can because it makes us feel old and there are too many Brits or Poms as they are referred to here.
One of our photos on our last entry is today showing on the opening page of Travelpod - entitled Seal Rocks.
