Starting to get excited about the holiday by Saturday 15th when we first heard that air routes and airports were being affected by volcanic ash from the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokul volcano in Iceland. On Sunday afternoon Heathrow was expected to be closed on Monday afternoon and Manchester was already closed and may reopen on Monday morning.
So plans B and C were researched about getting to Heathrow by train or car, but come Monday the gods had favoured us and both airports were operating normally so off we set.
The journey was uneventful we left home at 11am and reached Heathrow by 3pm and started watching out for other Riviera passengers. By chance we sat next to another couple who were on our trip and they were sat one row behind us on the South African airlines flight to Johannesburg!
We had to change seats just after takeoff as a small waterfall of condensation streamed from the overhead lockers onto Albert!
Maybe a sign of bigger things to come!
