I travelled to Welland, Ontario to spend Christmas with Rosie and Sonny, my cousins.
I had put in an order for a White Christmas, but the weather was "not normal" Ontario weather--you know the kind that stays cold with snow. It went from frigid to warm; snow one day and pouring rain the next, resulting in slick and icy conditions. But right on cue, snow arrived for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and then was clear to allow Sonny and Rosie to take me to Pearson Airport to fly to England on the 27th of December.
Between R&R, catching up on happenings and preparing for & celebrating Christmas, the time just flew. A highlight amongs many was celebrating a traditional Slovak Christmas with Rosie's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Michal. The Stdry Vecer (Christmas Eve) meal consists of special meatless dishes. The table is prepared with a sweet and sour menu, to represent the joy and sorrow of life's pathway. Food includes honey, garlic, bobalky, sauerkraut and mushroom soup, and pirohy.
Christmas was made extra special by sharing it with Rosie and Sonny's family, and enjoying their special warmth and love.
