We visited San Francisco and Wine Country in March 2008 to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. This was my second time to San Francisco and T's first. We didn't do many of the obligatory stops like Alcatraz and Fisherman's Wharf---I had already done all of that and let's be honest, T could of cared less! It was very clear that T was here for one reason and one reason only-the wine!! We had one of our best culinary experiences ever at Restaurant Gary Danko. The five-course menu, service, and ambiance were incredible. We could barely lift the wine BOOK...we had never seen a wine menu with a table-of-contents before...of course we opted for a wine from Sonoma!
Wine Country was truly amazing and surpassed our expectations. We spent one day in Napa and two in Sonoma--which was the perfect amount of time in both. Because of our love for Zinfandels and Syrahs, we spent the majority of our time in Dry Creek Valley.  We hired a driver for all three days which was the best money spent on this trip. We were able to fully enjoy ourselves and didn't have to worry about monitoring our drinking. And boy did we drink!! Let's just say that we didn't even make it to dinner two nights.  Napa was definitely much more elaborate and ostentatious, and much more expensive!!  The Chateaus were gorgeous and we loved our cave tour at Del Dotto where our tastings were straight from the barrels.
Sonoma was more low-key and family-runned. Out two favorite wineries happened to be in Sonoma: Seghesio, of course, and Wilson, where we loved the wine so much, we joined their wine club.
This was definitely one of our best trips together...and it wasn't even international! We can't wait to return and are already thinking about when we can go again!
