First mini crises - Denys can't find his small notebook with all his complicated codes for bank accounts etc. thinks he left it in the hotel and wants to go straight back there. I'm sure he hasn't. We ring hotel and have to ring back in 5 minutes. When I do they said there was nothing left in the room. Well at least we don't have to make the train journey back. We go and sit in a travellers lounge, then he remembers that he might have dropped it where he got change for the lockers. Whew, it's there. All is well. Had been knowing that nothing is lost.
Next we are on a 22 tram taking us to Prague castle, but no we are going in the opposite direction, so we take a 22 back the other way, and lo and behold we end up back in Andel, outside our hotel! We continue on and are told that the tram is taking different routes because of roadworks. No wonder Denys can't make head nor tail of the transport map. We could have caught this tram from right outside the hotel and directly to the castle, enabling us to leave the luggage there for most of the day.
I chatted with a young couple with baby in pram on the tram and they suggested getting off earlier and walking to the castle through the park, which we did.
The castle was absolutely magnificent, awe inspiring.
After a couple of hours exploring only a small part of it we walked a different way back to the tram and noticed what seemed like a choir entering a church. They were going to perform in two hours time, too late for us but we went into the church and sat for a while listening to another choir rehearse for the same concert.
Managed to find our tram to the city, going the right way this time, and passed our hotel another time. Connected with the subway again to get two trains to the old city square. And guess what we were travelling in the wrong direction yet again. Finally reached the square and bought tickets for two concerts at St Michael's Church. After having a quick meal we enjoyed the first one, which was Cabaret style with songs from popular shows, Cats, Evita etc
Unfortunately someone in the audience collapsed after the first two items and the performance stopped while we waited for an ambulance to arrive. The man had responded and was taken away sitting in a wheelchair. The quartet came back on stage (they had all gone to assist the man) and the concert continued. It finished to a standing applause which demanded an encore.
On reaching the station our train was delayed for an hour allowing us plenty of time to write postcards. We are now ensconced in our little cabin tucked up in our bunks. Night night. ZZZZZ
