After our outdoor fun, we flew into Cheng Du, the capital of Sichuan Province. It was hot, very hot. So rather than visiting the various temples, we retreated in our (v. cool) hostel to enjoy our last few days as 4 scousers together in China. One exception to our general lazing was a visit to see the pandas in the world renowned breeding centre. We didn't see any breeding (fortunately), but we did see a lot of pandas including a couple of newborns. They were all behind cages though - apparently they prefer air con too!

So, in a flurry of tears, we went our separate ways, the Jens to Xian (that's pronounced Shian, you know) and us 2 to Songpan...where it's cold. We came here to jolt every bone in our body by taking a 4 day horse trek, which we soon cut to 3 days after the first day of riding. It was actually really good fun, with some beautiful unspoilt Tibetan scenery and a good group of people. We got to rough it a little bit, sleeping in canvas tents on beds of branches and going without the daily shower. We did lord it up a touch though, by ordering a sheep for tea on the first night - it was really fresh, given that the killing, skinning and roasting all took place on that night around the campfire. Not one for the veggies!
