The adventure continues! 'Hurray!', I hear you cry...
We arrived in Melbourne on the 27th March 2013 and it does now kind of feel like home, for the time being anyway. After a 50 dollar taxi ride to our Air BNB homestay we quickly realised that we had to find jobs pretty darn quick! That was 2 days budget throughout our time in Asia. We nearly keeled over at the price of a pint, when has a pint EVER been 10 dollars! However, we learnt pretty quickly that we didn't want to be the typical english, whinging about the prices of this and that, although that's all we do with our pommie pals, and got on with exploring the city.
We stayed for two weeks in Brunswick, a cool suburb in the North full of Turkish/Lebanese bakeries, hipsters and bars/cafes. From here we got to grips with the city and began the ultimate job search...Thankfully, after two weeks, some pals of ours put us up in their place in the city. Without them, we can safely say that we could well have been on the plane home to our loving friends and family. Alaric and Sophie put us up for a total of six weeks, legends! Their gorgeous flat right in the city was THE place to really explore Melbourne and they were THE best hosts and tour guides. They took us out to brunch, took us on roadtrips and really did the best job of showing us around. They have become very close friends now, and Melbourne wouldn't be the same without them.
After a few weeks of sitting in cafes, sharing coffees whilst using as much free wifi as possible we landed jobs! Jo at a design studio in the city and me temping at an office. A load of interviews, job applications, bombarding companies later and we were up and running with proper jobs and PROPER pay! Now, we could enjoy what Melbourne had to offer!
The house hunt was just as tricky but after a load of viewings and stealing Sophie and Al's awesome house application letter we bagged ourselves our first place together, a one bed flat in Fitzroy - probably THE place to be in Melbourne.
We have managed to make some really good mates, stay in work for the majority of the time we've been here and furnished a flat that feels like home. Luckily, raiding op shops and going to garage sales is right up our street
There's a few things about Melbourne that we really love,
INCREDIBLE coffee - I didn't even like coffee before stepping foot in Melbourne.
There's a really lovely laidback, friendliness to the city which I suppose is why it's one of the most liveable cities in the world! Here's a few snaps from our 8 months in Melbourne...
Then the time arrived for us to do our rural work in order to get our second year visa so off we went to Mansfield, and what an adventure we had!
