For our last day in Tokyo we splashed out and did a day trip to Mt Fuji.

We packed up our backpacks, left our little hotel and made our way across town - during rush hour. Pretty difficult with a giant bag! We stored our bags in a locker at the station and got a bus to Mt fuji.

It took around two hours but just after half an hour after leaving Tokyo you are travelling through the hills which are beautiful.

When we arrived we got ourselves a map from tourist information, in the mood for walking we walked around one of the bigger lakes at the bottom of Mt Fuji and up towards the mountain itself. We were both surprised that the area was like a little town, we thought we'd be walking on mud tracks but if we weren't on the public footpath we were on the road.

We stopped for our packed lunch (yes, we really were like serious ramblers for the day) overlooking the lake, which was really peaceful. Unfortunately the bread rolls we'd bought had peanut butter in them - the Japanese really do have a sweet tooth. So we put a banana in and hey presto, a pretty nutritious lunch!

Unfortunately it cloudy it of a cloudy day and at first we were worried that we wouldn't see anything! Luckily, fuji emerged a couple of times for us...you'd suddenly look round and be like 'oh there it is' once the clouds had cleared. The first time we saw the peak when we first arrived we couldn't believe the size of it...we managed to get a few pics of the old gal but nothing that quite does it justice. When the sun did come out the scenery looked amazing especially with all of the autumn colours

We really enjoyed our trip out, it was great to get away from the city, beautiful scenery and a good way to wear ourselves out for the overnight bus journey that evening to Kyoto.
