Where I stayed
After taking in a whistle-stop tour of some of the remaining sights of Mumbai - including Dhobi Ghat (public launderette, check out the pic), some of the old town and the Ghandi museum - we met up with some of Kanan's releatives who live in the suburb of Santa Cruz. We were pampered and fed for a day and a night at their beautiful home. We sampled the delights of Pani-Puri, a meal enough in itself, before a sumptuous evening feast. In one of the pics you'll see an old ambassador car covered in dust in a parking lot. Kanan's cousins Parth and Raunak retold the story as to how it got there. Basically in India you need permission to build. Almost all new builds are built upwards or are redevelopments of old high-rise buildings
We flew to Kochi in the South Indian state of Kerela on Thursday. As the title suggests it's incredibly hot. It's beautiful in places though and the Fort Cochin area where we're staying has a relaxed feel to it. We've lazed around a fair bit which you need alto of in this heat. Yesterday we went to a Hindu temple to watch a festival (with a long and unspellable south Indian name) which involved a procession of elephants dressed up in Gold fancy dress. It was quite a sight.
Tomorrow we leave Kochi for a place called Allepey to try and organise out tour of the Backwaters which is supposed to be an incredible experience. We then plan to see Munnar (Hill Station) , a spice farm and various other bits. We're thinking of heading towards Mysore after that. We both send our love to everyone. Take Care.
