Sooooo,

Yesterday Kyle and I went to a really cool area of town. We got off the subway and were faced with blasting music and a two groups of crazy Elvis impersonnators. These guys just get together in this park, blast their music, and dance their asses off. They are dressed in super tight all black clothing with their hair all slicked up, combs in their back pockets. They take turns jumping into the middle of their circle to strut their stuff. Their dancing is a mixture of the twist and various break dancing moves. It is the most hilarious thing I have ever seen. These guys truely believe they are the coolest thing ever. We spent hours watching them. They would have a 1/2 hour set and then lounge around smoking, fixing their hair, and pretending to fix their motorcycles or bikes (the cooler ones had motorcycles). There were two competing groups of dancers. They were in a battle of the speakers thing. You could hear this insanely crappy music playing for blocks and blocks. Words really cannot describe this scene. I guess you`ll just have to look at the pictures.

Later that day we went to a restaurant (can`t remember what kind of restaurant it was) to eat some really good food with 4 friends. The table was about 1/2 foot off the ground and was basically a giant hot plate with a wood border to place your drinks. Our waiter came to fire up our hot plate and two seconds later he popped his head up and it was on fire! I guess he had been soaked with a bit of gas and the spark ignited him. It was terrible. He was so nervous in front of us that he just tried to brush it off and continue working. Meanwhile his hair is smoking and his forehead was burning. We felt so bad for him. Then we all felt sick because the smell of his burned hair filled our little booth. It was revolting. The poor guy finished up, and then excused himself to go to the hospital. Another server came to our table and apologised! Then she mopped up his singed hair particles from the floor and the night continued. About an hour later this poor guy returned to work with a headband bandage. Poor kid.

So, my classes are going ok. Myself and another girl in my training group were assigned teenager classes. This is the last year ECC is offering these types of classes because these kids clearly hate it. When I showed up to teach my lesson (they have to do an hour with a Japanese teacher before they get me) they were so bored and tired they wouldn`t even look in my direction. So rude! I couldn`t believe how bad their attitudes were. I finally ended up telling them they weren`t allowed to sit at a desk because they kept slouching over and not paying attention. So, we did the lesson standing up and I made them run around and stuff. They eventually realized that they don`t have a choice - they have to like me! I was supposed to do this lesson that was so silly - I was to make a poster with them where they decided on rules they would like to implement for our class. How stupid is that? What teenager wants to make more rules? So, instead we took the existing rules and has a contest to see who could X them out the fastest. I think that was a turning point in our relationship - now they don`t think I`m such a looser.

Well I have to be off now. I`m on my way to teach 2 more kids classes and about 6 adult classes.

Have a good week!
