We have arrived safely in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, albeit a bit exhausted and sweaty. We have toured around a bit by foot and have found some good spots to eat, drink, call home, and use the internet (thus the large updates and pix). We had an opportunity to visit the Vietnam War Museum today and will be venturing out to the Cu Chi Tunnels and Caoism Temples. Then off for a 2 day Mekong Delta Tour before departing for the beaches of Vietnam. And then we will work our way northward to Hanoi. We will try and keep you posted on our Vietnam adventure. We are both looking forward to exploring our newest country together.
So, i'm reading in our guide book about how it's social uncouth to "lose face" in Vietnam. So, I make a mental note not to yell at jonathan in public. We hop off the bus with the name of the hotel we have made reservations at but have no idea where it is or how to get there. We get off and get approached by a dozen pp trying to take us in a moto, put us their hotel, offering us weed
But that's not the end of it. They continue to follow us up the street as we look for our hotel. We start to get in a taxi, but he doesn't know where the Peace hotel is. So, we take 10 steps back and ask a tourist office, but they don't know where it is. The screaming girls are looking more appealing for a bed! So we check the internet at the tourist office. Jonathan googles and i try finding it on our confirmation email. Jonathn finds an address of A peace hotel and i reconize the numbers of the address as being part of their email address. So we try again. Ask the ladies at the tour office to point us in the right direction. We go out of their office (screaming ladies are gone) and they point us down the street. Something causes us to look up and what do we see? The Peace Hotel is right next door (literally) from the tour office, and it's 20 feet away from where the bus let us off. I start to wonder if anyone knows where anything is!! They all just make it up.:) And that was our first 30 minutes in Vietnam...
