With a little running and a little luck, we caught our flight out of Vienna to Krakow. Lauren and I had a very talkative cab driver, who informed me of about everything I needed to know about Poland while Lauren slept (which is what she did anytime we were moving- be it a car, train, plane, or bus. Our hostel was right by the train station in Krakow, and we immediately jumped on a train to the salt mines, which were about 20 miles away. Lauren and I had planned on trying to get it in that day, because we left for Paris a day before everyone else, and this would be the only time we could do it. We got to the salt mines and managed to get in on the next tour, which worked out well. The mines were really cool. You have to walk down 348 stairs just to get to the first level, and every room gets deeper and deeper. The entire rooms as well as the carvings are made out of salt. I don't have any pics from here right now either, so you'll have to google krakow salt mines to get an idea. One room in particular was amazing. 3 guys did the whole thing, and it included immaculate sketches as well as a replica of the last supper that was just incredible. After the mines, Lauren and I headed to a local restaurant, where I got a good cheap steak. We met up with everyone else and headed back to the hostel after that.
