We got into Dublin on Friday, and stayed through monday. We had a BLAST. Yes, we did the Guinness factory, and a whiskey distillery too. But there isn't just a ton of stuff to do in Dublin tourist wise, which was a great thing. We have been walking about 5 miles a day to make sure we see everything, and it was nice to just stroll through town with no agenda. The vibe of the city is great. We spent a surprising amount of time shopping the local stores and just enjoying the mild weather and good food. And oh the pubs. Each night we went to at least 2 different ones. It was great to be able to go into a bar and not have rap or smoke, but just good music and great people being loud and having fun. One place we were at was packed and Matt and I managed to get a table. A group of 4 probably age 55-60 came in, and I got up and told them to take our table
The Temple Bar is a district on the other side of the water that comes to life after dark. The streets fill with people and there is music everywhere, from bands inside the bars to street buskers outside. The blending of it all creates a soundtrack to the night, and I couldn't get enough of it. The last night, we were told by a local to be at St. Oliver Jon Gogarty's, and you can bet we were. It was full of locals, and 4 guys played their hearts out through traditional Irish Music. It was a great ending to the trip.
I'll be going back to Dublin on May 28th, and definitely plan to play in the streets for a day before I head home to the States. I can't wait.
