We arrived at Pearson airport in plenty of time for the first leg of our journey to Heathrow. When we dropped off our bags at the counter, we were told that our flight was "overbooked" and that our friends at British Airways were looking for volunteers to switch to a flight that was 2 hours later. Seeing how we were looking at a 10 hour lay-over at Heathrow anyway (not to mention that we'd each get $250 for our troubles), it was a pretty easy decision. Unfortunately, despite our enthusiasm (and mental lists of what we were going to spend the money on), in the end they didn't need us to move flights, and we left as scheduled.
Leaving Toronto was an interesting mix of emotions - it was weird to think we wouldn't be back until early January, but overall I was very excited to get our trip finally underway. The flight to Heathrow was pretty uneventful, apart from spilling some red wine (and most likely permanently staining) the only white cotton t-shirt I brought on the trip while we were still over Canada. Oh well - I'm sure I'm going to find better, more exciting ways to ruin most of my clothes before this trip is done...
BTW, if anyone can think of a better title for this blog than, "John & Sarah in SE Asia", then let me know. I asked Sarah what we should call it, and all she said was, "I'm not updating it!". I'm pretty sure that was a statement as opposed to a suggested title, but I'm not certain. If you've got any good ideas, leave them in the comments...
