We rose early eager to get to Mammoth Caves National Park. The park was approximately five miles from Cave City and on arriving there was already a queue of people waiting in line for the first tours of the day.

Time being an issue, we opted to go for the Mammoth Passage tour, a simple tour lasting 90 mins and providing an overview of the cave network, which sounded perfect for us. Unfortunately this was rather disappointing! We had hoped to see more of the cave system and the tour inside the cave only lasted about one hour. On reflection we should have opted for the History tour, lasting four and a half hours but covering much more of the cave network. The National Park Service also offer all day tours taking you deeper into the cave network.

After finishing our tour we hit the road again and headed south on the I65 into Tennessee and Nashville, the home of Country & Western music.
