We left beautiful Dubrovnik this morning for Trogir but first the small world announcement: A fellow traveler's son was married in Little Rock to Dean Kumperis' daughter, attended the Clinton Library opening, visits LR frequently, and knows, among other people, Justice Bob Brown and Skip Rutherford. Oh, and he is a college professor who runs a global leadership and service learning program who wears a Rivermarket hat! It really is a small world after all. Cue the Disney music.
The good news is that Trogir is very cute. The bad news is that it is a 5 1/2 hour bus ride from Dubrovnik! Dario, our driver, was very entertaining but it was still a long, hot ride.
We arrived and immediately walked the small but quaint old city. Trogir is very small so it didn't take much, The highlight of the afternoon, however, was the Cathedral of Saint Lawrence. Actually, the cathedral was OK but the climb up the bell tower was great. As we left the Cathedral, Karen Karen saw the bell tower stairway and said "Let's go." You first walk up a tiny enclosed spiral staircase with turns so tight I got dizzy. You then reach a roof top landing where the fun begins. I lost track of Karen until a fellow traveler pointed her out through an opening as she was ascending the second set of steps. Through a door is the real bell tower with rickety metal steps that get farther apart and steeper the higher you climb. You emerge through a narrow hole in the bell tower floor for a view worth the effort. Asw Nikolai once said, "put a finish line in front of Mom and she'll race you to it." She saw the challenge and kicked its ...
At that point, another traveler said that she liked Karen the first time she saw her because she had that "I'm going to have fun look in her eyes." I guess other people fall in love with her at first sight just like I did.
We then walked into an open market where we almost bought cherries from a very traditional looking women until she, perhaps traditionally, coughed on her hand, wiped her nose, and handed us a cherry to sample! We moved on.

Awesome! I remember my first experience climbing the bell tower at St. Paul's in London. But, the view wasn't nearly as beautiful. Have fun Karen!
