What I did
Monday morning Lorna began her surgery, so Laura and I took the opportunity to get out of Dave and Lorna's hair for a bit while she recovered and explore. Monday morning we hopped on a taxi to the bus station. From there we took a bus about 2 hrs south to Batangas to catch a boat. The bus ride wasn't bad at all, kind of like a Greyhound and it cost about $4. While we were on the bus I text the woman who was our contact for the hotel to set up our reservations and let her know we were headed her way. (everything her is done through text) We arrived at Batangas Pier and were trying to figure where to go when a young Filipino approached us. We told him where we were going and he showed us they way to the correct terminal and boat. The woman we booked our hotel room with was also in the terminal waiting for us and she sent a boy out holding a sign that had our name on it, he was also yelling out "Sir Jon" at the top of his lungs. We found him quite easily, and even as we continued through the terminal to buy our tickets and pay our fees he continued shouting "Sir Jon" 'Sir Jon" Sir Jon and wife." It was hilarious. When we were paying for our tickets three or for other guys chimed in too. "Sir Jon, Sir Jon, Sir Jon and wife." They also called me "Mr Suave" and said it was because of my mustache. HAHAHAHA. So for about 5 minutes we were serenaded by about four guys yelling "Sir Jon, Sir Jon, Mr. Suave, Sir Jon and wife" We thanked them all for their help and tipped the one who helped us the most and continued inside to the seating area to wait for our boat.
The boat was about 40 ft. long and 8-10 ft wide with an outrigger on each side. The boat trip was about 20 miles long south through Batangas Bay and took about an hour. The sea was very choppy and windy so the ride was nice and bumpy. It was great. Once we got closer to Puerto Galeras the scenery was really nice too. From the pier in Puerto Galeras we took quick 15 minute ride in one of there mini bus/pickup truck taxi like things to White Beach. White Beach was pretty quite as it was during the week and it was very pleasant. We through our bathing suits on and walked the hundred yrds to the beach front.
It was an overcast and breezy day, so it wasn't too hot. We wandered around, grabbed a bite to eat, swam. There was a nice little "Italianish" restaurant that was basically an open air patio tucked away on the south end of the beach so we grabbed some dinner and went to bed early. The next morning we were up around 7:00 and went down to the lobby in our hotel and had breakfast. Our boat left the dock at 1:00pm so we had all morning to lounge on the beach and do nothing. We rented a snorkel mask and did some swimming etc. Later we hopped back on the little mini bus/pickup truck taxi thing and headed back to the main pier. From there is was back to Batangas, then a bus back to Manila, and then a taxi home. It was a great little trip, and we got to see some more of the Philippines. Pictures and videos to follow.
Adios
