Where I stayed

Here in Bled, Jeff and I have met and fallen in love with the lovely Slovenian countryside. Bled is a small community that gives new meaning to the work quaint. Nestled below the Julian Alps and overlooked by Mount Triglav, Bled offers incredible natural beauty, and every outdoor activity possible (Lake Bled is the site of Olympic rowing team practice).

Tito had a villa on Lake Bled, which is now Vila Bled, a classy hotel. Bled comes complete with a cute little church settled on an island in Lake Bled (site of an 8th century pagan temple, now a Christian church). First thing Jeff and I did when we arrived was rent bikes and ride around the lake. Absolutely stunning with the fall colors!

After our ride we rested along the lake shore, snacked and watched the variety of birds come closer (much closer) to beg for food. Paula took a liking to one of the ducks and named him Andre.

We drove to a nearby lake town to see Lake Bohinj, another outstanding site with beautiful mountain vistas, and a rushing stream with water so clear, that if it hadn't been 32.1 degrees, we may have jumped in!

After a gorgeous, sunny fall day we drove back through the Alpine villages to Bled. Here the cows roam free to ring their bells and every little house has perfect looking flowers at their window sills. See the picture of the pension where Jeff and I stayed.

One night in this stunning territory was enough to leave us dreamy and hoping to someday return. Unfortunately, or fortunately Slovenia is trying to boost tourism, so we are very glad to have had the opportunity to see the country when we did.

Love Jeff and Paula
