Hungover we head over to Lori's and get the last of the lowdown on Squids routine before she leaves for Chicago. (The best bit is the takeaway menus with Squid's favourite meals highlighted!)
We embrace the opportunity to chill with Squid in the air conditioned room and enjoy the flat screen with CABLE!!!! Good hangover day. However, Squid doesn't seem to share our joy as he mopes in his chair and refuses to eat anything until we order him his favourite barbecue ribs.. and even then he only manages half the plate with a forlorn expression. He finally seems to accept defeat and comes on to the bed with us for a begrudging cuddle.
We awake to Squid still playing hard ball and refusing to eat all morning
We spend the afternoon in and around the East Village and when we return Squid hasn't moved from his chair. Poor pup. But with an order of a T-bone steak dinner, he can't control himself and eats the lot! Result!
In the evening we meet with Toby, Bronwyn and Robert who inform us that we got the wrong night for the film screening in Tompkins Square Park! So instead we settle for some whiskey and beer specials in a dive bar called B-Side on Avenue B. (duh!) The whiskey and beer, at first, seems like a great idea, it also quickly destroys us and we are not too late home!
Today we have a welcomed lunch guest, Bronwyn, who has just finished work on a magazine shoot and comes baring gifts of lots of food and drink left over from the shoot
We spend the evening bawling our eyes out (mostly Claire) at a horrifying documentary called, 'Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About his Father' that Claire innocently chooses because its about murder, but neither of us are prepared. Check it out.
By this time Squid seems to have warmed to us and in the last two days we've seen him much more animated, communicating to us his needs much clearer, barking, licking, cuddling, having 'adult' time with his 'adult' toys (a well used dog teddy and panda teddy) and (dun dun duuuun) eating his normal amount of food a day. (phew) We move our things back to Brooklyn, then return to wait for Lori's arrival. As soon as he hears her voice, he instantly turns into a different dog and it is the first time we've seen him run. All in all, a happy reunion and if we are to Squid sit again, then Im sure we'll get to know him even better. We make general plans to meet with Lori next week for a beach outing, then make our way to Leo's birthday party.
The party is in the beautiful West Village on the roof of Leo's girlfriends apartment, Annette. (Southern Belle!) She is a fantastic hostess and the place is beautiful, with the best views yet of the city.
On the way home we have a drink in Ionas and have an early(ish) night.
