Gay day! Yay! Jet lagged we walk the breadth of Manhattan. Robert's studio, where we are staying, is on Avenue C (an area known as Alphabet City, because of the Ave names, the dodgiest part of Manhattan in the 80’s now undergoing a yuppie take over). The layout of the roads makes it much easier to navigate your way around on foot (making up for how bloody complicated the subway system is!), so its basically a straight line until we get close to Christopher Street where we have been told is the best place to see the parade. Within a couple of blocks the street go from almost deserted to rammed. The presence of families is so nice and the atmosphere is energetic, especially as the state legalised gay marriage only a few days earlier – with the tiredness on top we both feel almost emotional watching the gospel choirs, drag queens and gay rugby teams (James, Liz and all you rugby nutters we know - we tried to video for you!) passing by on their floats with music blaring.

Tiredness takes over as we squeeze through the crowds and circle the parade, so we wander home and have some comfort food at Life café in the East village (as featured in the musical Rent… Genius).
