Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Botswana

We didn't actually get to SEE the pans as it was too wet to go in on quads. However, we heard there was a viewpoint of the pans in a burnt down bird sanctuary on our way to Zimbabwe, so we decided to stop and check it out. We each paid 5$ and were told it was an 8 km drive out to the view point. We set off in the truck and soon found ourselves driving through puddles the size of small lakes and very very very sandy/muddy terrain. We were already a good 2 kms in before it got really bad, so we decided to try our chances and keep going. Not too long afterwards we found ourselves stuck for the first time! We all clammered out of the truck, pants around ankles and shoes off, got out the sandboards, took pictures and got completely soaked as we worked together to get the truck out. It was a great laugh and just what everyone needed!
