Tott Hotel

We have decided to spoil ourselves with a New Year's Eve treat as our Christmas present to each other. Dinner and show at one of the fancy hotels in Are, including staying over in the hotel for the night. Not only does that solve how to get home, but we can dress up for dinner, as we don’t have to come in from the outside, wrapped up like Eskimos in layers of winter clothing. Shirt, trousers, a skirt if you please, hair done and all !

The Tott Hotel is located up on the side of the mountain above Are, giving a great view over the town and down the lake. A subtle mention that we work for SkiStar, plus wearing the uniform hoodie when we go in to book, lands us a table for 2 by the window – magnificent !

We were expecting that we would have a good view of the fireworks at midnight. What we did not expect was an ongoing firework show all night across the valley ! Yes, fireworks are not illegal in Sweden, and also given we are up in a rural area, people buy fireworks and let them off wherever and whenever they like ! Result – fireworks shooting up all over the valley, all night. An amazing spectacle. Of course, the fireworks reached a crescendo at midnight, but it was great to see the build-up coming, and the impatience of some who just clearly let all their fireworks off at once !

Dinner was delicious – 5 course meal with matched wines. A band come on to provide some entertainment, then afterwards a DJ to help with working off that dinner ! A fun night, and a nice break from the backpacker budget we need to adopt. No need to clean the hotel room in the morning either !

I had to laugh as I expected that Lauren's dogs would be winning if it was a race. Jim had a close encounter with a massive wolfhound at a friend's house when he was 4 year old and had barricaded himself behind a table and would not come out till the dog was removed. I didn't expect him to be bossing around a team of huskies! I can only guess Lauren that Jim's dogs were girls and therefore smart, while your howling team were all silly boy dogs. Great show, loved it.
