Today we rode the train in style. It was the first day of our two month Euro-Rail flex pass where we have fifteen days of travel in a two month period. Because our travel agent (Auntie Laurie) got us a deal on first class, we were riding in style. Jess' favourite part of first class is getting the free mini kit-kat bars on the way. Taking full advantage of our rail pass travel day, where we could go on and off any train within a 24hr period, we went past Vienna (our final destination for today) to the little town of Melk Austria. In Melk we hiked up to a 900 year old monestary that is still being used today. We took a guided tour of the monestary which included modern exhibits showing the history of the baroque period and Benedictine inspired architecture. We were taken around to various rooms throughout the monestary including a baroque style library. The library had a dome shape ceiling with paintings of angels and demons battling, complete with chariots and lions, all with a background of clouds and blue sky. There were gold coloured designs and leaf like extentions off the bookshelves. We weren't allowed to take pictures here, so if you want to see it just Google Melk monestary library and I'm sure it will come up. It is going to take me a couple days to get past the fact that everyone sounds like Arnold here. It took all the strength I had not to ask our tour guide if she could tell us all to "get to the chopper!" After our tour we were free to walk around the cathedral and garden. The detail in the Cathedral was stunning! "Most magnificant building I have ever been in" were Jess' words. The garden was nice to walk around in too. Now we are back on the train heading to Vienna for a few days.

Side note: We are both getting better at shuffling cards and Jess is starting to bridge the cards. The crib game count is 6-6. We count a skunk as two wins.
