Day 2

Got the hell out of the Hilltop Lodge as quickly as possible. With the gas pedal to the floor we sought cooler weather and higher elevation. We headed to Cornerstone Cafe in Dunsmuir that we discovered last Fall driving through on our way to Becka and Ethan's wedding in Oregon.Had a fantastic, fresh, gourmet, unbeleivably good breakfast.  I fancy myself an expert on breakfast places and I'm telling you this is one of the best, ever, in the world. Our caffienated bellys full of omelets, we drove on up the road to Mt. Shasta to re-attempt a summit of Black Butte.  Several years ago Carlos and I scrambled up the wrong side of Black Butte and summitted only to realize there was a great and simple trail on the north side.On the way to Becka and Ethan's wedding Allison and I attempted a summit but never found the trailhead due to misinformation from some Texans. So this time we actually drove straight to the trailhead and walked right up and right back down with no issues.  We confirmed that there are still no ice cream shops in Mt. Shasta.Unbelievable.One of you retired people needs to move to Mt. Shasta and open a gourmet ice cream shop.Right now there are thousands of sweaty tourists milling around Mt. Shasta City looking for a decent ice cream cone. Then we drove to Crater Lake.
