Hiroshima, where the A-bomb was dropped in WWII is today a vibrant city.
The War Memorial museum is very informative and well put together. A visit to the A-Dome, (the building that remained standing after the explosion) is also a must. If you visit Hiroshima, I highly recommend living close to the city center so that everything is within walking distance.
If you've read my previous entries, you might have noticed how much I enjoy Okonomiyakis (Japanese pancakes). Hiroshima has their own style of the Okonomiyakis. They consist of two thin layers of batter encasing cabbage, yakisoba noodles and your choice of meat. Seaweed sprinkles, Bonito flakes and sweet soya sauce tops the masterpiece. Just like in Osaka, they are served sizzling on the metal grill on the bar table. The spatula like utensil they give you here is also equipped with a special edge on one side to use as a fork so that chopsticks won't be needed. The debate continues as to whether the Osaka style is better or the Hiroshima style.
You may want to check out the video I have uploaded of the chefs making the Okonomiyakis. It'll make you feel hungry.
