Today was a flying day, so we spent the day hanging around our hotel in Mumbai, we left for the airport at around 3:30 pm, that ride was an experience in itself. Our cab was a small 4 cylinder 1972 car with no air conditioning, by the time we reached the airport one hour later, I seriously wanted to hurt someone.
Our flight to Dubai did not leave until 7:00 pm, but it is a good idea we decided to get there early, I guess when you are going to the Middle East, the level of security increases. After going through the regular security check and x-ray of the carry ons, there is a second carry on baggage check just before getting on the plane. When you go through the metal detectors, even if it does not beep, all passengers get screened with the wand, your boarding pass is check at least 3 times before you get on the plane.
Finally, everything has been scanned and checked and we are on the plane to Dubai, we arrived around 9:00pm, and started making our way to the baggage claim. To our surprise, it appears the rules have changed, Canadian passport holders now need a Visa to enter their country! So here we are with a hotel booked, and no visa, but not to worry for a small fee of $670.00, and a retna scan they will grant us 96 hours in their beautiful country! Did I mention we are only here for 3 days?
Visa in hand, we are off through more security, to get to our baggage, the nice part about the hold up is we did not have to stand in a crowd of people trying to get to our luggage, it was neatly stacked waiting for us by the carousel. The highlight of the day was when Alan stepped into the duty free shop and actually found a bottle of Canadian whiskey, an actual bottle of Crown Royal, and not Canadian Club, which is all we have seen since we left home.
