Whatever the reason the rest of my time in New Orleans was quietly discomforting. It was not entirely unenjoyable, but I should have loved it all. Tthe fresh air, the quaint streets fair weather, genteel locals and even the pleasant aroma of flowering magnolias.  Perhaps my first perception had coloured my impression too vividly.  I just could not help but wonder that something was amiss.
So I spent the days quietly and the nights avoiding stimulation, taking in what I could from passive activities.  I watched the town from afar as I crossed to Algiers on the ferry. I wobbled through the streets on the trolley. Yet I could not shake the surrealism of my own thoughts - swimming through the vacant pool of my mind.  I was meditative, preferring to spend the nights in reading my more bleak books.
And now after only two full days I have to leave.  Some would probably say I had yet to experience the true spirit of New Orleans.  Maybe so, but I had nothing left to move my inertia.  Maybe I was getting just a little homesick.
