I know an update was long due but to be honest, I am having such a great time that I really have to make time to sit down and write my travel blog.

So here are a few highlights from my trip so far. We (Xandra and myself) left Holland on Thursday the 19th of September, which now feels like ages ago. We flew from Düsseldorf to Dubai and after a short stopover in Dubai we continued our journey to Colombo, where Jan was waiting for as at the airport as he left for Colombo a week before us.

I am always very relaxed when I have to fly but when I see there is a nun on board I am even more relaxed. This was the case on the flight from Dubai to Colombo. I also came to realise on that flight that being able to reach the overhead locker for hand luggage is not the norm. A lot of people on that flight could not reach the overhead lockers and needed a hand.

As I said on arrival in Colombo Jan was waiting for us at the airport, we arrived in the morning and took a taxi to make our way through the traffic to get to our hotel the Saffron in Nawala, Colombo. I was pretty tired and could not keep my eyes open for the entire trip but Sri Lanka was just as beautiful as I remember, it's a place where I feel at home instantly.

Friday was as a travel itinerary would say at leisure. Of course the main reason for our trip is the cricket and Saturday is the first match at Colombo at the R. Premadasa Stadium, West Indies vs Australia. A big match to start with. But in T20 cricket anything is possible as we saw in 2009 when Holland beat England in the opening match and West Indies beat Australia the day after. We have tickets from the grandstand and make our way to the ground.
There are only few West Indies supporters to be spotted in the crowd. Unfortunately the match is spoiled by some serious rain and Australia end up winning according to DL.rain affected matches always give me a bad feeling. You want to play the entire match and reduction of overs or in this case DL is not the way you want to play cricket. But anyway that is how it is and nothing we can do to change it, we saw some nice cricket and made some new friends which is always nice.
In Sri Lanka when the rain falls they cover the entire field and it is cool to see how the covers are exactly place on the side of the field and the way they have the ground covered in no time.

Sunday we go to the stadium to watch England vs India. What should have been an exciting game ended up in a walkover for India. I really enjoyed Virat Kohli's innings pure class! Manages to score runs with beautiful and decent cricket shots in T20, joy to watch!

Monday is another West Indies match and once again the rain comes down and the match is abandoned. West Indies fielded and with more Irish than West Indian supporters the Irish captain Porterfield gets my vote for unluckiest player of the tournament as he gets out first ball to Fidel Edwards same thing that happened in his first match against Australia. Cricket can be a hard or harsh game which ever you prefer. West Indies did not bat at all.
