A great day again today - we are enjoying the Spanish morning - no one gets moving until 10 a.m. and we usually get going around 11 or so. We had lunch at our neighborhood restaurant and that supplied us with the energy that we needed for our day criss crossing Barcelona by Metro and foot. We took the Metro across town to the Plaza Espana - from there we looked up and saw the beautiful National Museum of Catalunian Art. We thought it would be nice to see and we knew that the Olympic Stadium was located behind it. Well, let the climb begin. We used three escalators and climbed an additional 162 stairs to reach the top. What a view! The museum appeared to be closed - but we weren't too concerned about that. It was a beautiful day and we really wanted to walk around in the gardens and parks in this area. We made our way to the Olympic Stadium - does anyone remember (Actually I know you do Jerry and Sandy) when they lit the Olympic Torch by a flaming arrow? I think we have a picture of the cauldron but it was kind of hard to tell because they are in the midst of remodeling the main stadium and we aren't exactly sure if what we took the photo of was what we saw exactly. What an event that must have been for the athletes and the visitors. Amazing. Jim also wants me to remind everyone that this was where the "Dream Team" got their start. Magic, Larry and Michael, to name a few. You will see a photo of where they played their games. We also saw the pools but we could not take any photos.
We wandered around this area of Montjuic (Mount of the Jews) and as we approached the Joan Miro Museum - we learned that it was closed. We did however get to walk a bit in the surrounding gardens and got a few photos.
We started down the 'mountain' and found the funicular to take us the rest of the way down. The funicular ran into the Metro and we then took that across town to the area of Barceloneta which is right on the waterfront. We walked along the harbor and marveled at all of the sailboats - then we came upon a great little 'bar/restaurant' on a boat in the marina - it looked great so we climbed down to the docks and they had a great table for us with great views of the marina - actually we were part of the marina then - and in the shade. We had Cava (Spanish Sparkling Wine) and Beer - and then a couple of Tapas and enjoyed the view. We had enough energy by now to tackle the dock/walkway called Ramblas del Mar where there is a large shopping center and restaurants. We sat and watched the boats come and go for a bit and then walked back in towards Las Ramblas - taking notice again of the Columbus Monument with the sun setting behind it. A few more photos of my favorite monument will be included again today. We hopped on the Metro at the closest stop and took that back to our flat. We are here now - just finished off our Sangria from last night and are thinking about heading out for dinner. It is almost 10 p.m. so it is allowed to go now! (Marlyn - Jim is talking to you right now. McTaggart - Jim just got off the phone with you!)
One more day in Barcelona! Not sure what we are going to do yet - stay tuned.
Adios!

How the heck did Ali reach that Olympic Flame with his torch??
Chris Going To Find Ray Charles!
Your favorite monument in Barcelona photographs very well, Steph. Very stirring to see Christopher Columbus pointing to the New World.
Enjoyed seeing the grounds of the the Olympics bringing back the memories of the Dream Team and it was the first time we had ever seen the colorful towering puppets that magically danced in the air during the opening and closing ceremonies. The late great Freddy Murcury belting out B-A-R-C-E-L-O-N-A. Ah, sweet memories!
More beautiful gardens; statues; architecture; harbor, boats and ships; brilliant blue sky; gorgeous parrots; unusual trees; food and drink to savor. Truely a magical city. Hate to see you leave!

Days gone by
This was very interesting. History has a way of becoming more important as we get older and have lived through it!! Speaking of that I think that Jim may have lived past the moment were he looked like the statue he was mimicing. I thought that the guy pointing up to the sky looked a little more like Jim.(sucking up now) See you soon.
